In a shockingly horrific attempt to turn a sweet moment sour at the very beginning of President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union event on the night of Tuesday, March 4, Democrats in the House Chamber refused to stand or cheer First Lady Melania Trump, instead sitting and scowling at her as Republicans and the crowd applauded.

The first standing ovation moment came as the First Lady was announced and presented to the nation, entering the House Chamber’s viewing gallery in a stunningly gorgeous outfit and slowly walking down the steps with a beaming smile as the densely packed crowd cheered for her and stood applauding her in a sweet moment.

Commenting on that aspect of the moment, the Breaking 911 X account, which is focused on news, said, “First Lady Melania Trump receives standing ovation upon entering the chamber.” Similarly, Eric Daugherty wrote, posting the clip of Melania being applauded, “BREAKING: First Lady Melania Trump arrives in Congress and receives standing ovation.”

And, on much the same note, another account posted the same standing ovation clip and noted that Melania was bravely standing up for herself and her family after all the lawfare attacks it has experienced, saying, “Melania Trump gets a standing ovation. She has made her presence known in DC after what the deep state has done to her family.” Watch that sweet moment here:

But while there was that very sweet moment in which the crowd stood and applauded the sweet, gorgeous first lady, another moment came shortly afterward and was quite upsetting, as it was the epitome of the same sort of poor taste and lack of respect that soon got Rep. Al Greene forcibly removed from the chamber.

That came when Melania’s presence was announced and, while the crowd and Republicans stood to applaud her, the Democrats rudely remained seated, scowling and refusing to wish the First Lady well while showing some sort of much-needed public grace and decorum.

Commenting on the matter, independent news personality Kyle Becker wrote, “Melania Trump gets a standing round of applause upon the announcement of the First Lady. The First Lady smiles and seems to be thrilled to be appreciated again. Who remains seated? Nearly all Democrats. Petty and sad.” Watch the horrid moment here:

Other commenters on the event noted that, generally, the applause Melania received was quite sweet and meaningful. Posting a picture of Melania smiling broadly while the crowd applauded her, for example, one poster on X said, “Melania walks in, and the applause says more than words ever could.”

But, still, the Democrats refusing to clap for her was noticed. One account, for example, said, “Democrats wouldn’t stand or applaud Melania Trump. What did Melania do to upset them?” Responding, a commenter on that post noted, “She’s a natural beauty inside and out and they are truly ugly.”
